JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Family and friends tell Action News Jax Blake Hendrix, 23, was shot and killed in Riverside early Sunday morning.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, police found Hendrix’s body in the road behind Burger King off King Street in Riverside.

Marcus Seyler tells Action News Jax reporter Ryan Nelson, that he and Hendrix were in an apprenticeship program for commercial plumbing. Seyler says they were supposed to graduate from the 5-year program together in a few months.

“Always happy, always had a smile on his face. Would always make you laugh any time he talked to you, just good guy all around,” said Seyler.

Before shots were fired, neighbors tell us they heard what sounded like a fight. Daphne Appleby lives near the shooting scene.

“At some point I was woken by some loud shouting,” said Appleby. “And then I heard a gunshot shortly after. Woke him up, got back in bed, and then we heard like a whistling, like a whistle you blow into, going off, for a little bit, and then some more shouting, and then a couple more gunshots.”

An employee at a local bar tells Nelson he saw a fight happening in the parking lot of the Burger King around the time police say they responded. The employee says he heard shots being fired a short time later. He declined an on-camera interview.

As of Monday night, police have not yet released any suspect information.

Seyler says he’s thinking of the victim’s family tonight.

“If there’s anything that I can do to make it easier on them, I would love to help,” said Seyler.
