JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville International Airport is planning to add a new concourse that could help meet the demands of expected new traffic throughout the airport.
“An airport is a gateway to the community,” says Greg Wills, from the Jacksonville Aviation Authority.

Wills says this concourse will help meet future demands at the airport.
“We are in the planning phase right now of a third concourse which will add six new gates at Jacksonville international airport,” says Willis.
This project is expected to cost 300 million dollars.
Willis says this project is estimated to cost 300 million dollars, and according to the rendering about 55% of the project will be funded by PFC funds.
With the addition of the concourse, Willis says TSA will add more security elements.

“A lot of that will involve new security screening equipment, which will allow them to process passengers quicker through the TSA checkpoint,” says Willis.
Willis says aviation authority officials are confident the third concourse will help the airport keep up with expected increases in flights and travelers.
“As recently as last week Breeze Airways started a non-stop flight to Richmond, Virginia. So, we’re certainly seeing that growth and anticipating that growth in the near future,” says Willis.
According to airport officials, this project could start as early as the end of this year and finish in 2025.
