JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his 60s is dead after a stabbing inside a Mandarin McDonald’s on Old St. Augustine Road Thursday afternoon, police say.
JSO says it started as a fight between two men who knew each other inside the McDonald’s.
The suspect, a man is in police custody.
Police tell Action News Jax the men were customers.
JSO and JFRD responded to McDonald’s at about 3:30 p.m.
Inside, first responders found a man in his 60s suffering multiple stab wounds.
JFRD took the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Garret Malcom says he was waiting for his order in the drive-thru when he saw the fight and stabbing in the lobby.
”Next thing you know, they get in a tussle. Dude pulls out his knife and straight stabs him, right in the neck,” said Malcom.
JSO says the suspect ran away after the stabbing.
Police brought out helicopters and the K-9 unit to track him.
Employees in the Mandarin Central Shopping Center, near McDonald’s, told Action News Jax the suspect was tackled by police in the area of the shopping center.
Police say the suspect’s being interviewed downtown.
Investigators spent several hours on the scene speaking to witnesses and collecting evidence, including surveillance video from inside the McDonald’s.
JSO says investigators are hoping to learn more about the nature of the fight between the two men through interviews with the suspect, and witnesses.
At the time of JSO’s news briefing, at about 6:20 p.m., police said a weapon had not been recovered.
