JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The City of Jacksonville is set to add a new skateboarding park in an unusual spot.

The park will be built right here under the Fuller Warren Bridge in Riverside. Many people who we spoke with this afternoon tell me they believe it’s a great idea.

“It looks like it’s going to be a good addition to our already new skate scene,” says Martin Ramos owner of Konda Skate Park.

Ramos says this new park under the Fuller Warren bridge is a unique idea.

“It was kind of surprising they were going to let it be this expansive,” says Ramos

Jacksonville city planners say this park will be between Park Street and College Street.

The renderings Action News Jax obtained show some of the elaborate ramps, transitions, and drops planned for the park.

The project will cost 8.8 million dollars and will be funded by FDOT and city CIP funds.

Ramos believes that this new skate park will bring skaters from all over the country.

“People are already talking about it not just here in Jacksonville, but all up and down the east coast. That skate park is going to be a destination,” says Ramos.

Demonte Rivera, a local skateboarder, says having the new park as an option will be better than using the streets.

“It’s better than having to ride around on these bumpy parts of the roads. It would be nice to have a place where skateboarders can go and do their thing, and I believe the view is amazing,” says Rivera.

Jody Mortimer who is also a Jacksonville, says a lot of people skateboard in the city, including kids, and having another park for them is a good thing.

“Keep the kids off the streets keep them busy doing something that’s entertaining and fun that they like to do,” says Mortimer.

According to Jacksonville city officials, they don’t have a timetable for when this project will happen.
