JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Feb. 28 Update: The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office identified the man who died following an industrial accident on Friday as Timothy Middlebrooks.
In a social media post, the International Longshoremen’s Association offered their condolences to the 18-year-old’s family.
The ILA said Middlebrooks was a third-generation longshoreman and was a member of the ILA Local 1408.
Original Story: A man was killed after a forklift carrying 500-pound pallets of paper hit him in the head, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the warehouse at 5050 Propeller Drive, JaxPort, where the incident happened around 2 p.m.
They found the man suffering from a head injury and later pronounced him deceased. The man had been working inside the warehouse when he was struck.
He has not been identified and police say he was between 18 and 20 years old.
The business has been shut down while police investigate the incident.
