One person shot in the head Tuesday near Murray Hill, JSO searching for black Range Rover

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 9:30 p.m.:

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said one person is in critical condition after being shot in the head at Lenox Avenue and Cassat Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, a dark-colored SUV pulled up to a Dodge Challenger and started shooting inside the car near the RaceWay gas station. Multiple rounds were fired and several bullet holes could be seen in the side of the RaceWay building.

Witnesses told officials they saw the SUV speed off. Then two people got out of the Challenger and ran inside the gas station. Shortly after, they were seen running out of the gas station and back into the Challenger.

Officials then responded to UF Health, where they were alerted to the Challenger arriving at the emergency room.

At the hospital, police detained two of the three occupants in the Challenger. The third occupant had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken in for surgery, according to JSO.

The two others were detained and questioned.

Police said they are now looking for a black Range Rover Evoque model as the possible SUV that was seen firing bullets into the Challenger.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a shooting occurred on Cassat Avenue and Lenox Avenue near Murray Hill.

The sheriff’s office is expected to give a news conference on the investigation at 7:45 p.m.
