Local day care taking temps and taking extra precaution

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coronavirus pandemic has local child care centers taking extra precautions to keep your kids safe while they are in their care. In this week’s Kid Care report Action News Jax Letisha Bereola picked up the latest inspections to see how they are performing on their state inspections.

Bereola also asked the Department of Children and Families how it’s making sure day cares are taking the proper precautions to keep Covid-19 out. She found out DCF doesn’t have the legal authority to enforce CDC guidelines--only strongly recommending them. But some centers are following them anyway.

Victorious Learning Center on Edison Ave. has never had an infraction during its routine DCF inspections dating back to 2017. It’s one of four inspections Bereola picked up from DCF headquarters. All four were 100% compliant. But it’s a new day and workers have any an even greater responsibility to keep our kids healthy. Bereola asked the Assistant Director Laviesha Davis how they are doing that at Victorious Learning Center.

“Right now we are maintaining our ratios of nine kids per class to comply with CDC, said Davis. Parents cannot enter the facility, no adults outside of our staff. The children are practicing hand washing. We’ve been doing that. We are monitoring temperatures at the door now. Constantly disinfecting items, making sure kids wash hands.”
