JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Neighbors in Riverside are on edge after JSO says Ernest Street was sprayed with bullets, adding that a man was grazed.

Police say the incident happened just after midnight. Officers say they found 20 shell casings and an AR-15 magazine at the intersection of Goodwin and Ernest streets.

“I thought it was right in our front yard. I didn’t know if it was firecrackers, gunshots, electrical wires coming down,” one neighbor told Action News Jax. “We didn’t get hit, but some of our neighbors did. Their cars, their houses.”

According to an incident report by JSO, a man said he’d been shot by “unknown suspects” in a dark-colored truck or SUV. JSO says the man’s ankle was grazed, and he told police he grabbed his guns and fired back.

According to police, two other neighbors grabbed their guns and came outside but said the suspects had already left.

This isn’t the first time there’s been gunfire on the street, according to one woman at Heth Realty. She told Action News Jax the building had been shot at three times in the past year-and-a-half.

As for neighbors, they say they’re keeping an eye out for one another.

The woman Action News Jax spoke to insists the neighborhood is in a good area.

“This could happen in any neighborhood anywhere, so we’re not packing up and moving, but again, I just hope they catch the folks and get them the help they need,” she said.
