JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The family of a slain Ribault High School teen is pleading for help from the community after she was gunned down back in March.
Police said 17-year-old Inandi Wyche was dropping a friend off in Sherwood Forest, a neighborhood on Jacksonville’s Northside, when a gray car pulled up in front of her on Portsmouth Avenue. Two men got out and started firing. Wyche was shot and killed inside her car.
It’s been seven months and police told Action News Jax they still don’t have any answers to help bring Wyche’s family some justice.
On Portsmouth Avenue, there’s still a small memorial of flowers in memory of the teen where she was killed.
Family members told Action News Jax they’re pleading with the public for any help in solving her murder.
Monique Wyche made an emotional plea on Thursday, standing only a few feet away from where her daughter was killed.
“Somebody saw something and to lose her life -- somebody shot up my child. Brutally murdered her, a young 17-year-old,” Monique Wyche said.
Wyche and her family want answers. They want to know who would cut this rising teen’s life so short.
“Cheerleader, she was getting ready to run for Miss Ribault. She was contestant number 6. She loved to laugh, have a good time,” Inandi’s mother said.
That’s why her family stood outside with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, city council members, First Coast Crime Stoppers, and the Fraternal Order of Police demanding answers.
First Coast Crime Stoppers told Action News Jax they’ve raised about $8,000 as a reward to help solve this case, but it’s hoping to raise at least $30,000 with help from the community.
It’s help that could get another criminal off the streets and give the family and grieving mother the closure they desperately need.
“She had a big personality, beautiful inside and out. Beautiful smile. And I’m honored to be her mother. I got some big shoes to fill,” Monique Wyche said.
In the last seven months, First Coast Crime Stoppers has received only seven tips in this case and so far, none of those tips have panned out.
Anyone with information is asked to call First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS (8477).
