Young woman rescued after crashing near the Buckman Bridge, landing in river

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A St. Augustine woman has minor injuries after her car crashed just before the Buckman Bridge and landed in the St. Johns River overnight.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 1 a.m. Tuesday as the 20-year-old driver was traveling northbound on I-295, just before the bridge, and hit a guardrail.

Troopers said her car hit the guardrail located between the north and southbound sides of the bridge, and as a result, her car went over the guardrail and into the water.

Thankfully, FHP said her car was not completely submerged. Troopers said she was helped to shore by a good Samaritan.

The woman was wearing a seat belt.
