JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after two people were shot Thursday in the lobby area of an apartment complex.

It happened around 3 a.m. in the 3500 block of Philips Highway near Emerson Street.

Police said when they arrived to the area, they found a woman and a man who had been shot. One was taken to the hospital to receive treatment and the other was treated by first responders at the complex. Both are expected to be OK.

The suspect, a man, has not been located. Police said the suspect and the two people knew each other. They were arguing when police said the suspect shot them and ran away.

The two people are recovering from the gunshot wounds and whoever is responsible for shooting them is still out there.

One women who lives at the apartment complex where the shooting happened said the sound of gunfire woke her up and she hit the floor and took cover.

“It woke me up and I knew something, I could hear the police yelling to come out. I heard five gunshots. Then I looked down and saw the police here. I hit the floor when I heard it. I got on the floor for a little bit because it sounded so close.”

Police said a woman and a man were both shot after they got into an argument with someone they knew. It happened inside the lobby of the Philips Pointe apartments. The property manager sent out a statement to neighbors saying some of the incident was captured on surveillance and they shared it with police.

However, officials said “to preserve the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of our residents, we are not distributing the footage further,”.

Although JSO is investigating neighbors said the entire incident still has them on edge.

“It made me very concerned because I’ve never heard anything like that or seen anything go on since I’ve been here like that,”.

The two people who were shot are expected to make a full recovery. JSO has not released any details about the suspect.
