21-year-old Roland Ball Jr. is charged with second-degree murder and a 16-year-old is charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Action News Jax is not releasing the teen’s name because he is a minor.
Police say back in March, 17-year-old Inandi Wyche was dropping a friend off on Portsmouth Avenue when a gray car pulled up and two people gunned her down.
Now, Wyche’s family finally has answers after almost a year.
“Props to JSO on sticking to a very tough case. We just want to make sure that her family gets some peace and that’s what I really hope happens today,” District 13 City Councilor Rory Diamond said.
Diamond commends police for solving the case. Getting there, he says, wasn’t easy.
By October, First Coast Crime Stoppers reported it had only received seven tips with no leads. Several months went by and police were still missing information to help solve the case.
That’s when Diamond held a community walk, hoping that raising awareness of the teen’s death would bring answers.
“I’m talking to this wonderful family who’s lost their daughter, lost their sister, lost their best friend,” he said. “It looks like it worked.”
Diamond says he played a very small role in the case, but he’s happy to see justice come to a family that’s been through so much.
He has a message for those responsible: “The family lost their little daughter. I mean, everybody lost, our whole community lost,” Diamond said.
First Coast Crime Stoppers tells Action News Jax it has received 20 tips in total; it’s still looking to see if any of those tips helped lead to the arrests.
