JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A community of athletes and families are left with only memories after a gymnastics gym on the Westside caught fire early Monday morning.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department crews worked for more than four hours to put out the fire at Gymnastics Unlimited off Lenox Avenue.

Gym owner Lisa Music said that the gym was a place of happiness and passion.

“This is a safe haven and has been for so many children for over 35 years,” Music said.

“I just can’t believe it right now, it still hasn’t processed. I’ve just been sitting on the concrete looking at the gym like how can this happen,” coach Ashanee Dickerson said.

Dickerson grew up at Gymnastics Unlimited.

Music said nothing will replace the legacy she and her father built over the last 35 years.

But the one thing that isn’t lost: is a community of athletes, standing together and hopeful to move forward.

“It’s gonna happen, we’re gonna rebuild and it’s going to be better than ever,” Dickerson said.
