JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A domestic dispute on the Westside turns violent when a car rams into another car and leads to gunshots.

Police say a woman’s ex-boyfriend rammed his car into hers this afternoon.

They say her current boyfriend was in the car with her, got out, grabbed a gun and began shooting the ex-boyfriend’s car.

Several neighbors tell Action News Jax they heard gunfire around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, and say it happened right outside of building 10 at the Cedar River apartment complex.

Franco Briggs, who lives at the apartments, heard it all go down.

“I heard about 6 or 7 gunshots,” he said.

Briggs lives in building 10 of the apartments.

Police said bullets hit the car, but nobody was injured.

Briggs said he didn’t think much of it at first.

“I thought someone was probably trying to test their gun out or something like that,” he said.

Action News Jax Law and Safety expert Dale Carson said the ex-boyfriend who rammed his car into the other could face multiple charges.

“That individual will certainly be charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, depending on the severity of the strike it could be attempted murder,” Carson said.

Carson added that while there was a violent danger, the response of shooting from the current boyfriend could potentially land charges of aggravated battery.

“Self defense occurs in the immediate presence,” Carson said. “You can’t come back out and re-engage the individual as self-defense any longer because the necessity for protecting yourself is gone.”

As for Briggs, he says something like this has never happened in this area.

“That never happened over there in our neighborhood before,” Briggs said. “It’s normally quiet.”

Action News Jax spoke to other neighbors in the area who all said they were shocked to see police around there.

Police say nobody was injured during the entire incident and everyone involved is in custody.
