Duval ranks second worst in state when it comes to solving crimes

Duval County is the second to worst county in the state when it comes to solving crimes, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The clearance rate — which refers to the percentage of crimes solved by police— was 17.1% in Duval County between January and June.

That’s below the state average of 20%.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office had a 17% clearance rate, which is down from 17.2% the previous year.

The report said overall, crime in Duval County is down 0.9%. However, there was a 5.6% increase in murders, while rapes were up 5.6% and there was a 5% increase in auto thefts.

For comparison, in Hillsborough County, which covers Tampa, the clearance rate is 34%. In Orange County, it’s 22.4%. Miami-Dade, at 16.2%, was the only county that ranked worse than Duval County..
