A very brief EF-0 tornado touched down briefly Thursday afternoon at Huguenot Park Beach in Jacksonville, the National Weather Service confirms.
The tornado happened at 1:41 p.m. and caused minor damage. Straight-line winds are reported to have caused damage at the Windy Harbor Golf Club.
NWS said the tornado was about 40 yards wide. An EF-0 is the weakest classification of a tornado, with 65-85 mph.
After the storms on Huguenot Beach, Action News Jax reporter Danielle Avitable and photographer Jesse Pope found a seagull that appeared to be injured.
Avitable was instructed by Cindy Mosling at B.E.A.K.S. (Bird Emergency Aid and Kare Sanctuary) to take the bird and bring it to their facility.
Mosling said the bird's wing did not appear to be broken, but was perhaps strained by the wind from the EF-0 tornado.
Also during Thursday's storms, a man's home was struck by a tree in Atlantic Beach.
