Elderly Jacksonville man dies after violent crash in Nassau County

CALLAHAN, Fla. — An 89-year-old man from Jacksonville died Monday morning after veering off the road and crashing into multiple objects.

The report from the Florida Highway Patrol says the man was travelling northbound on U.S. 1 near the Duval-Nassau County line in a 2004 Toyota Tacoma when the truck collided with a brick mailbox to the right of the road.

After that, the truck hit a ditch and overturned before continuing on to hit a fence, a flatbed trailer, a parked truck and a tree near AJ Welding and Repair.

The man was pronounced dead on scene, and the cause is still under investigation.
