Friends and family of a Nassau County woman killed in a head-on collision on her birthday are remembering her kind heart and positive spirit.

Meghan Knight was killed the morning of her 19th birthday when another driver crossed U.S. 17 and struck her car.

Hunter Matthews was one of her best friends and was at a visitation for her on Sunday. He said he couldn’t believe the news at first.

“The day I found out she passed, I cried pretty much all day,” he said. “It’s been hard for everybody, for her mom, her aunt and everyone else.”

Knight wanted to follow in the footsteps of her mother and be a nurse.

Matthews said she enjoyed helping people. He remembers countless times when she helped him, including once when he drank too much at a football game.

“She wouldn’t leave my side no matter what,” he said. “She was just always there for me.”

Knight’s funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Callahan.
