The family of a 16-year-old gunned down in Jacksonville says they’re taking matters into their own hands to prevent his case from going cold.

Family and friends of Adrian Gainer, who was shot and killed in the Hilltop Village apartments in February, marched Saturday afternoon.

They did so to encourage community members to break their silence in hopes of bringing the case to a resolution.

“Break the silence, you know. I don’t wish harm on nobody, so it can happen to anybody,” said Jacqueline Bradley, Gainer’s aunt.

Action News Jax records show nine children have been shot in Jacksonville in 2019, and five were killed. Gainer's family says they’re trying to prevent another tragedy.

Gainer’s grandmother, Blanche Jordan, says they’re praying others won’t have to experience the pain of losing a loved one to gun violence.

“Put your guns down, stop the violence,” said Jordan. “And let our kids grow up to be young adults.”

They tell me their work is only beginning and say they’ll march until they find justice.

“I’ll come out here,” said Bradley. “I’ll come out here! Anytime it’s time to march, I’ll come out here!”

Action News Jax has reached out the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office asking if they’ve identified new suspects or new leads in this case. As soon as we have that information, we’ll bring it to you here online and on the Action News Jax app.
