One step closer to justice for a local mother shot to death in a McDonald’s drive-thru. On Friday, the State Attorney’s Office announced Rasheed Kareem has been indicted on charges of murdering the mom of three.

“Ever since my sister’s murder it’s just been a nightmare, everything is upside down,” said David Roque, the victim’s brother.

Roque describes those four months as torture. For nearly 120 days, his little sister’s killer was out there. He reached out to Action News Jax just days after her murder, vowing to find the person who pulled the trigger.

“She’ll get justice one way or another, I don’t care if I got to beat on every street,” he said.

Late Thursday night Roque said he got the news he had been waiting for.

“I’m feeling like I’m getting one step closer to closure to be able to go on with my life,” said Roque.

Investigators said Kareem, 35,  shot Jamie Roque, 32, in a Southside McDonalds drive-thru in August. The mom of three later died at the hospital. Roque said Jamie and Kareem were in an on-and-off again relationship.

“I do know there was conflict between her ex and that man multiple times,” said Roque.

While Roque feel he’s getting closer to justice, it doesn’t take away his pain.

“I just miss her smile. I just miss her being around for the holidays,” he said.

Kareem has a lengthy criminal history. He’s been in jail nearly 20 times for charges ranging from battery, selling drugs, burglary, making threats and robbery. In January, a report said Kareem attacked Jamie in the parking lot of Quality Inn. Investigators said surveillance video showed Kareem reaching back to punch and kick her.
