FHP: Multiple-vehicle collision on Dames Point Bridge causes traffic chaos

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles on the Dames Point Bridge in Duval County resulted in significant traffic disruptions Tuesday morning.

According to FHP, the incident began at around 10:43 a.m. when a disabled vehicle became stranded, blocking the northbound left lane of the bridge.

As traffic came to a halt due to the obstruction, a sport utility vehicle (Vehicle #01) driven by a 33-year-old male failed to stop in time and collided with a sedan (Vehicle #02) driven by another male. The impact propelled the sedan into another SUV (Vehicle #03) driven by a 26-year-old female.

In a subsequent turn of events, a second sedan (Vehicle #04), driven by a 44-year-old female failed to notice the pile-up and rear-ended the initial SUV (Vehicle #01). As a result, all vehicles involved in the collision came to a rest, completely blocking the left lane.

However, the situation escalated further when an unsuspecting commercial vehicle driver, traveling north on the Dames Point Bridge, failed to observe the halted traffic ahead. Ignoring the collision, the driver collided with a total of six vehicles, exacerbating the chaos on the bridge.

During this second collision, the driver of the tractor-trailer was ejected from the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.

As a result of these multiple crashes, all northbound lanes of the Dames Point Bridge were obstructed, leading to extensive traffic congestion in the area. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to assess the situation and ensure the safety of those involved.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the exact sequence of events and factors contributing to the collisions.

While the crashes caused minor injuries, no fatalities or serious injuries were reported.

Further updates regarding the investigation will be provided as information becomes available.
