First Alert Weather Day: Winter storm ongoing through Wednesday morning

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The First Alert Weather Team says the temperatures are below freezing across much of the area as rain continues to transition into a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow across southern Georgia.

This transition will continue into parts of northern Florida by midnight as temperatures across most of our area drop to freezing (33° at JIA as of 10 p.m.).

Travel is becoming increasingly hazardous across the viewing area and is not advised.

Precipitation will come to an end quickly Wednesday morning near sunrise with a burst of heavy snow possible somewhere near/north of the FL/GA border.

Temperatures will not rise above freezing until around 10 or 11 a.m. Wednesday, at which point melting will begin.

Wednesday will be downright cold—highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.

We will largely re-freeze Wednesday night/Thursday morning, so patchy black ice/lingering snow in GA could be a concern.

Several nights below freezing are on the way.
