DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Access is expanding for those who live in Northwest Jacksonville who still need a COVID-19 vaccine.
Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday morning that Edward Waters College in New Town has now become a permanent vaccine site to help underserved and minority communities.
James Oliver received his vaccine at the college and is hoping others living nearby do the same.

“It’s very important because it’s a serious virus that’s out and everybody needs to be covered by this vaccine,” he said.
EWC is partnering with Agape Family Health to vaccinate seniors 65 and older and health care workers, on a first come, first served basis.

All you have to do is walk in and go to one of the tables and you’ll be registered for a vaccine.
Mia Jones, the chief executive officer with Agape, told Action News Jax they want to target those who live in the New Town area, first.
“So we’re looking at zip codes when they go into the system and register. If they’re within the right zip code, then they’ll be able to register,” Jones said.
The company is looking to vaccinate people who live in the following five zip codes for now: 32209, 32208, 32210, 32218, and, 32254.

Jones said they’ll be going into nearby communities to vaccinate home-bound seniors, too.
Oliver said a lot of people in the New Town area don’t have a car or any transportation to get to a vaccine site like Regency.
“By being in this area, it gives them the opportunity to come today to an area that’s close to them and get the vaccine,” he said.
The vaccination site is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
When you get your first dose, Agape said it’ll make an appointment for your second dose.
