Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declares state of emergency ahead of winter storm on Tuesday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency ahead of severe winter weather expected for North Florida on Tuesday and into Wednesday.

The First Alert Weather Team said a Winter Storm Warning has been issued, meaning frozen precipitation is likely to impact travel, commerce, and possibly electricity.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp also declared a state of emergency for the Peach State ahead of the winter storm.

DeSantis’ executive order states, “hazardous driving conditions will exist Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday, especially over bridges, overpasses, and elevated surfaces, leading to possible roadway and bridge closures across North Florida.”

Under the executive order, DeSantis directs Director of the Division of Emergency Management Kevin Guthrie “to execute the State’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and other response, recovery, and mitigation plans necessary to cope with the emergency.”
