Former dental assistant to Dr. Howard Schneider asks for lawyer

Dr. Howard S. Schneider was arrested Monday, Nov. 16, 2016, on 11 counts of Medicaid fraud.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The dental assistant for the dentist accused of hurting children appeared in Duval County Court on Thursday.

LaTosha Hillsman was arrested for practicing dentistry without a license, Medicaid fraud and child abuse.

Hillsman was the dental assistant to the controversial Dr. Howard Schneider, who was arrested on 11 counts of unauthorized Medicaid claims. Several patients told Action News Jax that their children were hurt by the dentist.

Hillsman pleaded not guilty to her charges in a Duval County Courtroom and asked that the court appoint an attorney as she is not working, does not have money saved and her ex-boyfriend paid her $30,000 bond.

Hillsman’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 19.
