JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Former Jacksonville Councilwoman Katrina Brown wants her trial pushed back.
In a new motion, Action News Jax's Paige kelton has learned she's asking the judge to delay her federal fraud trial six months. She is being charged along with former councilman Reggie Brown.
A federal judge granted former councilwoman Katrina Brown’s request to represent herself.
While she said in court on Thursday she doesn’t want a court appointed attorney, the judge put her current attorneys on standby and expressed major concerns about her decision.
He asked whether she had any formal legal training, and she said saying she did not.

The judge went on to ask whether she understood the rules of the court and rules of evidence before making the point that the court could not help her represent herself.
She’s facing a 37-count indictment, including charges of fraud, money laundering and making false statements to a financial institution.
If convicted of all charges she could spend the rest of her life in prison.
“It’s always a first for everything, so in life you always have a first for everything,” she told reporters on the way out of the courtroom.
