Former Jaguars employee sentenced to more than 6 years in prison, ordered to pay back over $21M

Jacksonville, Fla. — UPDATE 1:00 p.m.:

Action News Jax has learned a judge sentenced Amit Patel to 6 1/2 years in federal prison on Tuesday. He was also ordered to pay back just over $21 million to the Jacksonville Jaguars. This will be accompanied by a 3-year supervised release.

Once on unsupervised release, Patel will be ordered to participate in substance abuse and mental health programs.

He’ll also have his personal computer(s) subject to searches upon reasonable suspicion.

Patel will be prohibited from opening new lines of credit and he’ll have to provide a probation officer his financial information for monitoring. He’ll also have to avoid work in accounting unless approved by the court.

Finally, Patel must attend Gamblers Anonymous meetings.

ORIGINAL STORY: Amit Patel will find out today how he will be punished for stealing millions of dollars from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Sentencing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Federal Courthouse in Downtown Jacksonville.

Patel has pleaded guilty to theft charges.

Documents obtained by Action News Jax show he gambled with most of the money.

The rest was spent on funding a lavish lifestyle that included pricey jewelry and private jets.

Action News Jax will be in the courtroom today for Patel’s sentencing.
