JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — Next Saturday, July 24, members of the community are being encouraged to come out to Jacksonville Beach for a memorial paddle out in honor of Tim “Timmy” Obi.

The 37-year-old Jacksonville native, husband and father of 3, went missing last Saturday during an open ocean dive off the coast of Mayport.

The search ended Tuesday after Obi’s damaged gear was found by volunteers assisting in the massive search effort. Authorities later announced they believe the experienced diver likely had an encounter with a marine predator.

Friends and family have now announced they will hold a public vigil to honor the late Obi.

Organizers ask anyone wishing to attend the paddle out to arrive at Florida Blvd. at Neptune Beach no later than 9 a.m. They say paddleboards will be provided on a first-come basis. Kayaks are welcome too.
