JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis is promising legislative action to try and keep our borders safe and cut down on the number of illegal immigrants.

“You’re having 200,000 people illegally enter every month, I mean that’s a medium-size American city coming in every month illegally,” Governor Ron DeSantis said.

He was joined by Congressman John Rutherford, Mayor Lenny Curry, Sheriff Mike Williams, and Senior Advisor for public safety Larry Keefe at the Jacksonville International Airport Friday.

They slammed the Biden administration over what the governor says is a “reckless” catch and release immigration policy.

“The cartels are just eating our lunch with what’s going on with these border policies,” DeSantis said.

They even cited a case in Jacksonville involving an illegal immigrant that resulted in a murder.

When President Joe Biden came into office, he promised to tackle immigration challenges that remained a problem in the U.S. for decades.

So far, he’s put vice President Kamala Harris in charge of improving conditions in Central America to help create a legal pathway to entering the U.S and maintaining former President Donald Trump’s policy of turning away undocumented migrants seeking entry.

But since taking office the U.S. has seen a record number of migrants at the southern border prompting criticism from both republicans and democrats.

Gov. DeSantis is proposing new legislation he says will secure our borders and keep people safe.

He said that that he’s been trying to put a stop to flights carrying illegal immigrants from landing right here in Jacksonville or anywhere else in Florida.

Under the governor’s proposed legislation to secure the border, contractors that help the federal government in transporting undocumented people would be barred from doing business in Florida.

He also said that and any private entity that helps illegal immigrants will also owe the state of Florida restitution and there would be a better way to track illegal immigrants who are arrested or convicted of a crime.

“When people are convicted that this is reflected on their court record whether they are here in the country illegally and this is going to be reported to FDLE and it’s going to be put on a public Website,” DeSantis said.

Governor DeSantis filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration over its immigration policy back in September, DeSantis said on Friday that the lawsuit is still ongoing.
