JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One by one, plastic bags lie on several driveways in a St. Nicholas neighborhood.

Action News Jax received a tip on Saturday and when we got to the neighborhood around 7:30 p.m., we found quite a few still around.

The paper inside lists several different hateful statements about same-sex couples, accompanied by the phrase “nothing to be proud of.”

“(I am a) little bit disgusted … as a public health professional, living in Jacksonville and seeing this type of information trying to be spread, it’s just hateful,” resident Matthew Schimenti said.

Schimenti hadn’t picked the bag up on his driveway yet, so we brought it to him.

He said nothing like this has ever happened on his street before.

“People are a little bit… (need) better things to do with their time,” Schimenti said.

He, along with several other neighbors, has a camera set up outside his home.

We scrolled through the video together to discover a white sedan driving past his driveway.

It appears the passenger in the car was throwing out the bags.

“A little bit surprised. I know there’s a lot going on right now, being that it’s Pride Month, so there’s a lot of information going around out there, just never seen anything quite like that,” resident Trish Phillips said.

We also tracked down another video of the sedan tossing out the bags. It appears whoever did this went up and down different streets.

No one knows why they chose this neighborhood, but Schimenti is glad he caught it on camera.

“Being able to document the kind of antics that happen just makes me feel more secure,” Schimenti said.

The two neighbors didn’t voice any concerns about involving the police.

We are working to find out why this neighborhood was targeted and who may have done it.
