NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A head-on crash on US 17 killed two people early Wednesday morning in Nassau County.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened just before 1 a.m. and killed a woman from Fernandina Beach and a man from Kingsland, Georgia.
Troopers said the driver of a Nissan Maxima, 25-year-old Matthew Cisco, crossed the center line and hit a Honda Civic head-on.
The driver of the Civic, 19-year-old Meghan Knight, died at the scene. It was her 19th birthday, troopers said.
Family and friends expressed their condolences for Knight on Facebook.
"I heard the worst news today. You were such a sweet and fun loving girl. I just met you last semester, but we had some really good times. You will be missed. RIP."

Cisco was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where was pronounced dead.
The crash closed US 17 at Carndall Road, which is just north of Yulee, to traffic until 6:30 a.m. as officials investigated.
The investigation is ongoing.
