Jacksonville police are investigating after a woman was killed at a Southside fast-food restaurant Friday.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a man shot a woman in the drive-thru of the McDonald's located at 8590 Baymeadows Road near I-95.

The woman, who was approximately 32 years old, was taken to Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m.

Authorities said she was the only person inside the gray sedan seen at the microphone of the drive-thru at the time of the shooting.

Police said the shooting suspect, described as a heavyset black man, was last seen driving away in a white four-door car eastbound on Baymeadows Road.  The make and model is unknown at this time.

JSO believes the shooting was possibly caught on camera and is working to view surveillance video.

The woman is described as a white woman, possibly Hispanic, according to JSO. Police are asking for anyone with information to come forward.

Sgt. Marc Musser said the nature of the crime leads to "some credibility" that there was a relationship between the two.

Witness in the area spoke to Action News Jax reporter Amber Krycka Friday.

“They just came in and locked the whole area down,” said Brenda Corley-Valdovions, manager at Larry’s Giant Subs.

For hours, part of the shopping plaza in front of the McDonald’s was blocked off after police said a 32-year-old woman was shot in the drive-thru line.

“They told us we couldn’t leave the building. She just came in for breakfast, and now her family won’t see her anymore. It is sad,” Corley-Valdovions said.

“Oh my Lord I was about to get food here,” said James Padgett, a McDonald’s customer who had to find somewhere else to eat while employees talked to investigators.

McDonald's owner and operator Jose Hernandez released the following statement:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and loved ones. We are working with law enforcement as part of this ongoing investigation. Our biggest priority is always the safety and well-being of our employees and customers at our restaurants.”
