JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The driver that caused a head-on crash on the Northwest side of Jacksonville was the same driver linked to a deadly pedestrian crash.

Action News Jax has been investigating that first crash since August of 2021, when a Jacksonville grandfather was found dead on the side of the road. The man who hit him, Brion Glanton, died in a crash Tuesday night, Apr. 25.

Thirty-three-year-old Brion Glanton was driving in the southbound lane on Imeson Road, near Moncrief Road West on Tuesday around 9 P.M., according to a crash report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The report goes on to say, Glanton crossed over into the northbound lane, attempting to overtake the vehicles in front of him. He then collided with another vehicle traveling in the northbound lane.

A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office sergeant confirmed the driver originally in the southbound lane, Glanton, died as a result of the crash. Three other people were seriously hurt, and one patient is in life-threatening condition, according to JSO. A spokesperson with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said one of the crash victims is a pediatric patient.

Attorney Stephen Smith represents the family of Darryl Lindsey. Smith received an email from the Director of County Court and Traffic Homicide with the State Attorney’s Office, on Wednesday morning. It said, “for whatever this information is worth to Mr. Lindsey’s family, I’ve been told that Mr. Brion Glanton was the person killed in this crash.”

“He informed me that the at-fault driver in Mr. Lindsey’s case was also in another crash,” Smith said. “He likely shouldn’t have been behind a vehicle given his traffic history.”

Glanton was the driver who hit and ultimately killed 59-year-old, Darryl Lindsey in 2021. Action News Jax, Meghan Moriarty, has been investigating the case since the crash occurred.

Lindsey was hit on the side of MLK Parkway when walking home from church at night. Glanton didn’t stop but he did call 911 (you can listen to the full call by clicking here).

Nobody came out to the scene. Lindsey died from his injuries. He leaves behind seven children and four grandchildren.

Action News Jax told you last month, the State Attorney’s Office would not be bringing charges against Glanton, because he did call 911. After one of our several investigations aired, two JSO dispatchers were disciplined, one later stepped down, because of the handling of that 911 call, and the failure to send a patrol car to the scene.

Action News Jax, Meghan Moriarty, dug into Glanton’s driving history and found several citations for driving on a suspended license or driving without insurance. Two of the seven cases were dropped.

“His family has to grieve,” Smith said. “These other folks, their family is grieving now as well, and no one wins.”

As for the Lindsey family, they did not want to do an on-camera interview. However, they asked us to share this statement:

On behalf of The Lindsey family, We offer our sincerest condolences to the Glanton Family despite our own pain and grief that we are still experiencing to date. We have experienced the loss of our loved one Darryl “Victor” Lindsey and the pain has been great. However, our faith in God is strong enough to allow us to acknowledge the Glanton family’s pain at this time. We will continue to pray for them as we continue to comfort and pray for ourselves as we move forward.

Grace and Peace,

Ms. Crystal C. Tyler
