SCHOOL CLOSURES: Duval, surrounding counties cancel school Thursday

Here are the latest school closures:

Duval County Schools are closed through Thursday, and will be back open Friday.

  • Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. They will reopen Thursday, the school confirmed Wednesday.
  • Hope Christian Academy in Jacksonville will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Providence School in Jacksonville is closed Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Bolles is closed through Thursday.

The district said all JV and varsity football games scheduled for Thursday, Friday or Saturday will be rescheduled or canceled. Rescheduling information:

Atlantic Coast vs. Ed White moved to Oct. 4.
Baldwin vs. Westside moved to Sept. 9.
Wolfson vs. NFEI moved to Oct. 4.
Sandalwood vs. Ocala -- postponed - no date set. 
Fletcher vs. Terry Parker canceled.
Mandarin vs. Deland canceled.
First Coast vs. Heritage canceled.

Baker County Schools will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4, according to the Baker County Press. Schools will reopen Thursday, Sept. 5.

Brantley County School System posted to Facebook that schools will be closed Tuesday through Thursday. They will continue to post updates on its Facebook page.

Bradford County School District has decided to cancel school for all students on Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4. Bradford County Schools announced Wednesday that schools will be open Thursday, Sept. 5.

Camden County Schools will close Tuesday, Sept. 3, through Thursday, Sept. 5. They plan to resume a regular schedule on Friday, Sept. 6, according to a Facebook post.

Charlton County School System said classes for Tuesday, Sept. 3 and Wednesday, Sept. 4 are canceled. School resumes on Thursday, Sept. 5. Check for updates on its Facebook page and online.

Clay County has also canceled school through Thursday ahead of Hurricane Dorian.

Columbia County Schools announced Friday that all of Columbia schools will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Florida School for the Deaf and Blind has canceled classes and sent students home until further notice. The campus remains open for 11 and 12 month employees.

Glynn County School System canceled classes for Tuesday, Sept. 3, Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 5.

Nassau County Schools are closed through Thursday, the district announced Tuesday.

Pierce County Schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a Facebook post. School will be back in session on Thursday.

Putnam County has canceled school through Thursday, the district announced Tuesday. Schools will be back open Friday, Sept. 5.

St. Johns County has canceled school for Tuesday through Thursday, the district confirms. The district announced Wednesday that the district will be open Friday, Sept. 6.

Union County Schools will be closed Tuesday through Wednesday and reopen Thursday, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office. They posted this update on Facebook Tuesday.

Ware County Schools will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Thursday, Sept. 5, according to the districts' website. Staff members who are able to report safely on Thursday may do so. The county said it anticipates school reopening on Friday, Sept. 6.

Jones Technical Institute (J-Tech) will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

College of Coastal Georgia has canceled all classes and suspended non-essential operations in Brunswick and Camden  through Friday, Sept. 6. Check for updates on the schools' website.

Edward Waters College announced Thursday it will be canceling classes and close at noon on Friday Aug. 30 through Thursday, Sept. 5. The university is asking students to stay tuned to the website for further updates.

Flagler College said it is closed until further notice.

Florida Gateway College in Lake City will be closed and all classes canceled on Tuesday, Sept. 3, according to its website. This is in addition to the previously scheduled closure on Monday, Sept. 2 in observance of Labor Day.

Florida State College at Jacksonville is closing all campuses through Thursday, Sept. 5. They plan to reopen Friday.

Jacksonville University is canceling classes Friday, Aug. 30, starting at 2 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 6, according to a Facebook post. The university said it is working directly with students leaving town and will accommodate any student who stays on campus.

Keiser University Jacksonville will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

St. Leo University - Jacksonville campus is closed through Wednesday.

University of Florida classes are canceled through Wednesday. Campus is open on Wednesday and classes will resume Thursday.

University of North Florida announced Sunday it is canceling all classes and student activities beginning Aug. 31 through Sept. 5. All residential housing will close Tuesday, Sept. 3 at noon. Residence hall will reopen Wednesday evening. UNF said if a change in the weather further impacts university operations, alerts will be provided through multiple channels, including UNF email communication, text and phone, Safe Ospreys App, social media and the UNF home page at unf.edu.
