Jacksonville, Fla. — Ron Salem has filed to run for re-election in 2023 for his at-large group seat on City Council.

Salem had never held political office prior to his 2019 run. The healthcare administrator told Action News Jax at the time the three biggest issues facing Duval County voters were public safety, economic development and public education.
In other City Council news, on Tuesday, Republican Councilmen Sam Newby was elected president and Terrance Freeman elected Vice-President of Jacksonville City Council in a 10-9 vote, marking the first time two African-Americans will lead Council.
