A homeless man has been arrested for operating a multi-state rental car and bank fraud scheme out of Jacksonville.
George Jackson, 34, was charged with several felonies, including bank fraud, schemes to defraud and grand theft.
According to Jackson’s arrest report, he would recruit people in Jacksonville to open bank accounts with VyStar Credit Union and get a Savings and Secured Visa cards.

Police said they would use the cards to rent luxury vehicles knowing that they would not be returned to the rental agency.
Investigators said they would transport the vehicles to Atlanta with the intent to sell or lease the cars.
The North Florida Financial Crimes Task Force began investigating Jackson in April. He was arrested in August.

The report said multiple agencies from Georgia and Florida assisted in the investigation including law enforcement, bank fraud investigators and rental car company fraud investigators.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the reported fraud loss to date is approximately $1,350,000.
VyStar told Action News Jax that none of its members will incur a loss related to the scam.
Jackson is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday.
