Jacksonville graduate among UF football players facing charges for fraud

Nine University of Florida football players, including a Raines High School graduate, face felony charges after they were accused of using stolen credit cards to buy expensive electronics from the school bookstore.

The players facing felony charges include running back Jordan Scarlett, wide receivers Antonio Callaway and Rick Wells, defensive linemen Jordan Smith, Keivonnis Davis and Richerd Desir-Jones, linebackers James Houston IV and Ventrell Miller and offensive lineman Kadeem Telfort.

Police began investigating after UF bookstore employees said several students' accounts were flagged.

The students added funds in excess of $1,500 to their UF Bookstore prepaid accounts.

The students added funds electronically using their Gatorlink username and password, which was unique to each student.

The bookstore received several disputes in reference to two accounts. The disputes caused school officials to flag several other accounts and launch an investigation into the matter.

Similar transactions were found on the debit accounts of Kadeem Telfort, Antonio Callaway, Ventrell Miller, Rick Wells, James Houston IV, Keivonnis Davis and Richerd Desir-Jones.

All of the students added large amounts of funds to their UF Bookstore debit accounts using one or several different credit cards that did not belong to them, according to a sworn complaint.

A bookstore employee said the students used the funds to purchase items from the UF bookstore in person.

Most of the items purchased were electronics such as laptops, iPads and Beats by Dre headphones, according to the bookstore employee.

Telfort is also accused of using stolen credit cards to order food delivered to his on-campus apartment.
