Jacksonville Humane Society challenges the community to provide unique names for kittens

Jacksonville, Fla — Jacksonville Humane Society Challenges Community to Provide Unique Names for Kittens During June Matching Donation Campaign

Every year, the Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) provides compassionate care to more than 4,000 kittens. Donations from community members make it possible for kittens to receive everything from warm blankets to nutritious food and compassionate veterinary care including vaccinations, medications and spay/neuter surgeries.

Due to “kitten season”, or the time of year when an influx of kittens are born and end up in area shelters, JHS can take in anywhere from 100-200 kittens every week during warmer weather months like June, July and August.

JHS is now challenging the community to help them provide names for each and every kitten. From June 1 to 30, 2023, community members can make a donation and also suggest a name for a cat or kitten who arrives at JHS.

Thanks to a generous donor, all gifts up to $30,000 will be matched. This provides JHS with the opportunity to raise up to $60,000 in just 30 days – and also collect a wide variety of unique and creative names for the many kittens.

JHS ran a similar campaign in June of 2022 and some of the stand-out names included celebrity inspired monikers like Meghan Meowarkle, Fuzz Lightyear and Catrick Swayze, while naming kittens after food was also a popular choice with suggestions like Sushi, Pickles, and even Mayonnaise.

“With so many kittens coming in, we truly need the community’s help and also their creativity,” said Denise Deisler, JHS CEO. “We’ve been through just about every name in the kitten book, and we’re really looking forward to the new and different ones that this campaign will bring in. We hope they have as much fun suggesting names as we do reading them!”

A name suggestion can be made with each donation on the JHS website: jaxhumane.org/donate. Donations must be a minimum $5.00 and names must be appropriate. Due to the volume of kittens, JHS cannot send pictures of kittens to donors, however, kittens will appear on the JHS website when they are available for adoption. Donations can be made online via jaxhumane.org or by calling 904.493.4566 and all donations made prior to midnight on June 30, 2023 will be matched up to $30,000 total.
