JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The deadly attacks at the Brussels Airport are already having an impact locally.

There was a noticeable increase in security at the Jacksonville International Airport on Tuesday, with armed officers looking for anything out of the norm.

Flashing lights were posted outside, while security armed with rifles hanging around their necks were on the inside. It’s no secret: security is playing no games at JIA.

Tuesday morning, police rode around on scooters, making sure nothing out of the ordinary was happening on their watch.

Police said the extra security is because of the attacks happening overseas at the Brussels Airport.

News outlets report at least 20 people have died at the Brussels Airport and even more injured. That news is definitely causing concern for passengers.

"It can be right here, and we don't know that," said Bob Thomas.

Bob Thomas was en route to Nashville and said he’s not concerned about flying in the United States, but has plans on flying overseas to Austria to see his dad in the next two weeks.

Sydney Scarborough is flying to Dallas. She said flying domestic is also not a problem for her, but would think twice about stepping off U.S. soil.

"It would give me pause. I would think about it twice," said Scarborough.

JIA said safety is always their number one priority.
