JSO said the shooting happened near the east side of the road.
Family members told Action News Jax he was going to a party Saturday night before he was found in his SUV near the median early Sunday morning.
Mack's football coach told Action News Jax Kevin Clark that Mack was supposed to go to Alabama Prep before transferring to a bigger school. The coach said Mack was never a kid in trouble, and he wanted to play college football.
“That football field’s his life," Mack's cousin Rod Ludaway said. "I think he went to sleep in his cleats.”
The Sheriff's Office homicide unit is investigating. Meanwhile, Mack's family said it has a message for the shooter.

"You’re not only hurting the person, but you’re also hurting the people around them," Jasmine Young, Mack's cousin, said. "And this did nothing but make the situation ten times worse than what it had to be.”
