The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the man was “performing maintenance on his vehicle in front of his home” in the 7440 block of Amanda’s Crossing Drive North around 9:20 p.m., when three to four men attempted to carjack him.

Police said the man attempted to pull one of the suspects out of his vehicle when another suspect shot him in the “lower back from behind.”

The suspects, described as black males, fled the area in a different vehicle, which police believe is a recently stolen silver minivan that was later abandoned and recovered by officers a short time later.

The man is listed as stable, JSO said.
