JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local man is up for three Grammy Awards.
Jahaan Sweet got his start in music in North Jacksonville and is nominated for album of the year, best rap song and best urban contemporary album.
The 25-year-old is a Jacksonville native and a music producer.
He grew up on the northside of Jacksonville and began playing music at the age of 6.
“I started playing piano, and I was just always playing piano,” said Sweet.
Sweet even played for his church, St. Paul AME and attended LaVilla School of the Arts.
After he graduated high school he left Jacksonville to attend the Juilliard School in New York.
In 2016 he was nominated for his first Grammy while he was still in school.
“We got nominated for best urban contemporary album, so I guess that’s kind of my big break, working with Kahlani,” said Sweet.
This year, Sweet earned himself three more Grammy nominations for his work with popular artists such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Drake and Eminem
Sweet told Action News Jax he never imagined having this much success at such a young age.
"It's amazing, I'm just so thankful... but I never thought about that (laugh). I was just doing what I do because I love doing it," he said.
He’s hoping his story will inspire others to follow their passions.
“Do whatever you do because you love doing it,” said Sweet.
