Witnesses came to help; 65-year-old man beaten up, carjacked, and ran over in Oak Hill neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — JSO states that a 65-year-old man was sitting in his car when the suspect punched the victim, pulled him out of his car, and stole it. The suspect rammed several other surrounding cars in the process.

The suspect made a U-turn and returned to the scene and ran over the victim. Citizens began giving aid to the victim and watched the suspect crash the car in a nearby ditch.

When the suspect tried to flee on foot, a group of citizens detained the suspect until police arrival.

JSO said that the victim is suffering from fractures to his face and broken bones, but is not in life-threatening condition.

The subject is currently in police custody.

JSO states that it is unknown at this time if drugs are a factor, but the possibility has not been ruled out.

Authorities state that the incident occurred on 103 Street in the Oakhill neighborhood.
