Jacksonville police officers save leatherback turtle from crab trap

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office posted new video on its Facebook page Monday night of two officers rescuing a sea turtle.

The video shows JSO Lt. Steve Mullen and Officer Brad Smith.

They saw a leatherback turtle tangled in a crab trap about two miles from Hanna Park. Lt. Mullen used a knife to cut the rope to the free turtle.

Leatherback turtles were once considered endangered, but are now classified as a vulnerable species.
