JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — LATEST: Witness to shooting: 'It sounded like automatic weapons ... it was rapid gunfire'

One woman was killed and another was injured in a shooting near Kings Road and Myrtle Avenue on Thursday night.

Police got a call of multiple shots fired in the area around 9:36 p.m., according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chuck Ford. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded too.

When police arrived, they found two women had been shot; both were taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where one died and one was in surgery and her condition was unknown, Ford said.

Police then blocked off an area outside Kelly's Place, a bar and restaurant located at 1352 Kings Road.

Multiple cars were hit; one car left to get away from the gunfire, then came back, Ford said.
