Jacksonville police: Shooting victim found dead in front yard of home, just blocks from a school

Police in Jacksonville are investigating after a person was found dead in the front yard of a home, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Officers say they were dispatched to the 3600 block of Clyde Drive in reference to a shooting at 10:07 p.m. Monday where they found the victim dead.

Action News Jax is working to learn the identity of the victim and what led up to the incident.

Action News Jax Reporter Elizabeth Pace found the victim was found less than a block away from Martin Luther King Elementary School. School buses and children passed by police tap on their way to class.

JSO’s Crime Scene Unit, K9 team, and several patrol units were on scene investigating Tuesday morning. Action News Jax has exclusive video of crews loading a black Chevy Malibu on the back of a tow truck.

Neighbors told Pace they knew the victim and described him as a young man. She asked not to be identified for her own safety. Action News Jax has is waiting for police to confirm this information.

“I was shocked, in disbelief, because I can’t believe it,” she said. “She’s a sweet young man and he was just at my house Saturday.”

Pace found three reported burglaries and one assault reported within a half mile of the house on the JSO Crime Map. Another neighbor who grew up in Harbor Views said she now warns her children about the violence in Jacksonville.

“You think of the peaceful area it had always been and when you hear something like that you’re kind of like, ‘Wow. What’s really going on? How is this happening,’.” Kammi Henderson said. “So it’s shocking.”

Police say another person was found dead 30 minutes prior to the shooting on Clyde Drive, following a separate incident in Jacksonville's Brentwood neighborhood Monday night.

The body was found in a parked car near an apartment building.
