Jacksonville's Eureka Gardens apartment complex without heat as area sees coolest temps since April

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Tenants in the Eureka Gardens apartment complex were without heat Wednesday night as temperatures were expected to dip across Northeast Florida.

Gas service was shut off to the entire complex on Wednesday afternoon and as of late Wednesday night, there was no timeline for when it will be restored.

According to TECO Gas Company, gas was shut off because of damage to a line at the complex.

TECO said once the apartment's maintenance crews fix the leak, service will be restored.

Eureka Gardens has had a history of problems with gas service at the complex.

In 2015, code enforcement agents detected a gas leak during a mass inspection at the complex. One woman became sick and had to be taken to the hospital.

On Tuesday, the Jacksonville City Council approved a $90 million plan to renovate Eureka Gardens as well as Moncrief Village, Southside Apartments and Washington Heights.
