JEA released the following statement Monday afternoon about the extra day, saying that customers could also make payments in-person as well as over the phone.

“Customers who were scheduled for disconnection today will have another day to make payments. JEA has experienced an extremely high volume of calls since early this morning, and we want to ensure customers have the opportunity to make a payment or payment arrangement throughout the day. We encourage customers to visit jea.com to make payments or request payment arrangements. They also can make payments at any of our 400 authorized payment locations throughout Jacksonville.

“As a community-owned utility, we do not want any customers to lose the services they depend upon daily. That is why we provided a six-week grace period during the peak of summer heat. We have worked diligently to notify customers about their options and the upcoming deadline.

“For those who are disconnected, we are committed to working with customers to restore service as quickly as possible after payments are made.”
