The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office took to social media Sunday night to reveal Cathy Adams, a JSO bailiff, had died from injuries she suffered in a crash early this morning in St. Johns County.

William "Jack" Adams, her husband and JSO officer, is in critical condition, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department tweeted Sunday night, saying Officer Jack Adams was in the Intensive Care Unit.

“Every time I’m out there, I talk to them,” said Lawton Daniels, who lives next door to the family. “Just the nicest people, two kids.”

Kim Johnston, who was arrested on suspicion on DUI, collided with the Adams family vehicle, causing their Chevrolet Tahoe to swerve and overturn, according to FHP.

They say one person was ejected and the driver was trapped.

FHP says Johnston, the woman charged with two counts of DUI and serious bodily injury to another, suffered no injuries.

“We’ll (bind) together and figure out what we could do to help out the family as much as possible,” said Daniels.

Multiple people close to the investigation told Nelson the Adamses and their two teenagers were driving back from the state championship game, where the Mandarin Mustangs claimed a state title in football.

The military community also grieves tonight, as we’re learning Jack was a Marine.

Robert Germano told Nelson over the phone he and Adams served together in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm.

“He was my boss in desert storm, he was my crew chief, so you know, we lived on the same track the same vehicle for, like, five months,” said Germano.
