Officers said it is unclear who fired two bullets that ended up inside a home where a young boy was sleeping on Wednesday night.

Police were first called out to Tyler Street for a report of shots fired just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, but they didn’t find any victims.

Less than an hour later, officers responded to a home at the corner of McConihe and Whitner streets after reports that a man was shooting into it. An officer located the suspect and chased after him.

Police said the man pulled a handgun out of his backpack and fired at the officer, who shot back five times. It's not believed the man or the officer were hit and the suspect got away.

A woman, who didn’t want to be identified, said two bullets hit her home.

“My son could've been dead this morning,” she said.

She said one bullet went through the wall just above where her 6-year-old son, Clyde, was sleeping.

“I just took him off the bed, made sure he was alive and I took them all out the room,” she said. “I cried when I went to work, just thinking that could've been my son’s life over. I'm not blaming no one. I just want safety for my children.”

Officers said they will do ballistics testing to try and find out the origin of the bullets.

Police said the shooting into another home and the suspect pursuit during which the officer fired five times are still under investigation.

They do not known as this time if the incidents are related or involve the same suspect or suspects, JSO said.
